The 4thKhamtrul Rinpoche, Chokyi Nyima was born in 1730 in the upper region of Zachu. He studied under the great master Situ Maha Pandita ChokyiJungne, a close disciple of the 3rdKhamtrul Rinpoche. Chokyi Nyima composed many commentaries on the Abhisamayalankara, Abhidharmakosa, Vinaya and Pramanavarttika, making him one of the great commentators on Tibetan Buddhism. Chokyi Nyima also founded the renowned college Namgyal Chokhor Ling in Chamdo, from which many highly learned teachers were graduated. At the same time, he founded a Yoga Center for the practice of the Six Yogas of Naropa. The center became well known for having produced hundreds of accomplished yogis (Tokden), up to the present time. At the age of 50, he passed away with many amazing relics coming out from the cremation that have been preserved in Khampagar Monastery.
