The 6thKhamtrul Rinpoche, Tenpe Nyima

Tenpe Nyima

Tenpe Nyima was born in 1849 in the Nangchen region of Tibet. At an early age, he was recognized as the 6thKhamtrul Rinpoche by Choegon Rinpoche Thuchen Choekyi Nyinjed. He received many teachings from Choegon Rinpoche while he was at Khampagar Monastery and also from the Drukchen Jigmed Migyur Wanggi Gyalpo. He also studied under many teachers of the three other school, such as Mindrolling Tri Yeshe Wangyal, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul Lodre Theye.

Tenpe Nyima spent most of his time retreat. While not in retreat, he travelled widely to give teachings in eastern Tibet and China. Among his students were the king of Derge, Nangchen, Khatok and Ling. He passed away at the age of 59, leaving behind an intact treasury of teachings in care of his numerous students. It is because of his efforts that all the hundreds of volumes of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage are available today. The Togden Shakya Shri was one of his lineage holders.
